Upstate South Carolina offers a blend of natural beauty and serene landscapes, perfect for
women travelers seeking a rejuvenating escape. From lush forests and cascading waterfalls to
awe-inspiring mountain vistas, the region has an array of outdoor adventures that not only
soothe the soul but also foster a deeper connection with nature. Whether you’re an avid hiker, a
photography enthusiast, or simply in need of a tranquil retreat, Upstate South Carolina has
something for every woman eager to explore the great outdoors.

Discover Scenic Hiking Trails
The rolling hills and mountains of Upstate South Carolina provide a haven for hiking
enthusiasts. The region boasts a variety of trails, each offering a unique experience and level of difficulty. There is something for everyone.
One of the most popular trails is “Table Rock State Park”, a must-visit destination when
exploring the region. Located in Pickens, the park is home to the challenging Table Rock Trail.
The trail leads to the summit of Table Rock Mountain. At roughly 7.2 miles round-trip this hike is considered moderately strenuous. Accept the challenge and be rewarded with panoramic views
of the surrounding mountains and valleys. For those seeking a less demanding experience, the
park also offers several shorter, easier trails, including Carrick Creek Trail, visiting scenic woods and along pristine streams.
If you’re looking for a more tranquil hike, “Jones Gap State Park” is the place to be. In the heart of the Blue Ridge Mountains, Jones Gap offers over 30 miles of hiking trails through lush
forests, alongside rushing streams, and past dramatic rock outcrops. The park’s signature hike,
the Jones Gap Trail, follows the Middle Saluda River, with opportunities to stop and soak in the
surroundings. For a more adventurous experience, consider hiking the Rim of the Gap Trail,
which offers stunning vistas and a true wilderness experience.

For those wanting changing colors of the seasons, “Caesars Head State Park” is an ideal
destination. The Raven Cliff Falls Trail, a 4-mile round-trip hike, leads to a breathtaking 420-foot waterfall, the tallest in South Carolina. The rustling leaves and crisp mountain air offer a sensory experience that is amazing. The park also connects to the 76-mile Foothills Trail, which spans multiple state parks and provides a more extended adventure for those looking to immerse themselves in nature for days on end.

Chase Cascading Waterfalls
Few things are as mesmerizing as the sight and sound of waterfalls. Upstate South Carolina is
home to some of the most stunning waterfalls in the Southeast. These provide the perfect
backdrop for a day of exploration, relaxation, and reflection.

“Whitewater Falls” is a must-see. Located near the North Carolina border, this two-tiered
waterfall is the highest in the eastern United States, plunging a total of 811 feet. A short hike from the parking area leads to an overlook where you can take in the full scale of these falls.

The surrounding area is perfect for a picnic, making it a great spot to relax and enjoy a day.
Another great destination is “Rainbow Falls” in Gorges State Park. This 150-foot waterfall is
accessible via a moderate 3-mile round-trip hike that winds through dense forests and along the
Horsepasture River. The trail offers several points to stop and view the falls from different
angles, and if you’re lucky, you might even catch a glimpse of a rainbow formed by the mist.

Experience Breathtaking Mountain Vistas
For those who wanting sweeping views of the Appalachian Mountains, Upstate South Carolina
does not disappoint. The region’s mountain vistas provide a perfect backdrop for a day of
contemplation, photography, or simply soaking in the beauty of nature.
“Sassafras Mountain”, the highest point in South Carolina at 3,553 feet. It offers views of the
surrounding Blue Ridge Mountains. A newly constructed observation tower at the summit
provides a 360-degree view, allowing visitors to see as far as North Carolina, Georgia, and
Tennessee on clear days. The drive to the summit is scenic, and once there, you’ll find picnic
areas and informative signs that detail the history and geology of the area.
“Bald Rock Heritage Preserve” is another must-visit spot for panoramic views. Located along the
Cherokee Foothills Scenic Highway, Bald Rock offers an expansive rock outcrop that provides a
natural viewing platform. From here, you can look out over the Upstate landscape while
enjoying the peace that the area is known for.

Embrace the Journey
Upstate South Carolina’s landscapes offer women the opportunity to reconnect with nature and
experience the serenity that only the great outdoors provides. As you explore, you’ll find
moments of peace and connection that stay with you long after you’ve returned home. So pack
your hiking boots, grab your camera, and get moving.
