We have reached the unofficial end to summer and many of us are having that one final blowout to
send her off with a bang. I don’t know about you but I made the most of the warm, sunny days by
getting outside as often as possible. Although the cooler weather is still a little way off, I cannot help but
think of all the wonderful things that autumn brings. It’s not hard to imagine, in fact, because stores
began displaying their fall decorations nearly a full month ago.
I have come to find that there are two types of people in this world, the ones who decorate for fall as
soon as the 4th of July has passed and the ones who absolutely wait until the last minute. Whether you
are team bring it on or team procrastinator, it makes no difference, we all love fall. The colors in the
mountains start to change and really show off the best that Mother Nature has to offer. As we get ready
for pumpkins, hayrides and apple cider, we first have to get through back to school, changing out our
closets and closing down the swimming pools for the season.
If the thoughts of that makes you feel a little said then I have great news for you! I found a couple of
autumn themed books that will not only make you smile but will get you in the mood to tackle the first
of the –ber months…September. Fall is one of my favorite times to sit down with a good book. It’s
usually pleasant enough to sit on the porch swing or rocker with a cup of coffee or tea and lose yourself
for a couple of hours. Fall is also one of my favorite seasons to read about. I love it when authors can
paint a picture of small town autumn so vivid that I can see myself spending time there.
The first book I came across had a cover that was so cute and simple that I had to check it out. I learned
that it was recently turned into a Hallmark Channel original movie as well. Pumpkin Everything by Beth
Labonte is a sweet romance book that hits all the notes that make it perfect for a Hallmark movie. The
story follows the main character Amy Fox as she navigates several life changes.
After calling off her fall wedding, horror novelist Amy Fox is left with a broken heart, a mega case of
writer’s block, and a serious aversion to all things pumpkin spice. When she receives news that her
grandfather has broken his wrist driving through a Dunkin Donuts—literally straight through the front
windows—five hundred miles away, in her hometown of Autumnboro, New Hampshire, Amy has no
choice but to return to check on him. If she doesn’t make sure that he’s back on his feet, Grandpa may
be moved into assisted living, and Amy’s beloved childhood home will be put on the market.
Knowing she must return, Amy worries about the only thing worse than pumpkin spice—a reunion with
Kit Parker—her childhood best friend, first love, and entire reason for skipping town in the first place. As
the two reconnect, a second chance seems possible…if only Kit weren’t holding on to a secret that just
might unravel everything.
The second book that caught my eye was A Cup of Autumn by Melissa McClone. This book is the third
installment in her popular Silver Falls series that all have seasonal themes. Each book is a stand-alone

story making this the perfect September read. This story follows Ranie Hanover and Keaton Andrews as
they evaluate their dreams and paths in life.
When elite university professor Keaton Andrews walks into a meeting with the dean, he expects to hear
that his tenure application is on track. Instead, his beloved department is cut. Regrouping in Silver Falls
with family seems like his best option. One morning, he takes a risk and orders a pumpkin spice latte
from the beautiful barista at the local coffee shop. Too bad she doesn’t seem to find him nearly as
intriguing as he finds her…
Raine Hanover is no longer swayed by a charming smile, especially by a nerdy—and distractingly
handsome—academic. She’s taking a break from romance and focusing on running her increasingly busy
coffee shop. But when Raine is involuntarily put in charge of organizing the town’s Halloween bash,
Keaton jumps in to help, and it’s not long before sparks, and kisses, fly.
As the leaves begin to fall, Raine wonders if she should risk taking another chance on happily ever after,
especially with a man who has dreams and goals so far away from Silver Falls and her.
No matter what your level of dedication to décor, one thing we can all agree on is good books are the
perfect decoration. Grab these and other great autumn themed reads at your local book shop or library
and let yourself be swept away by changing colors and falling leaves. Take some time for yourself and be
sure to include a book or two on your autumn to-do list.
Happy reading and welcome to the –ber months!
